Reflection 2

In this course I wrote about two main reports; the first one is about technology. In this report I talked about TV as a good source of technology then I uploaded it to my blog. Then, I worked on the other report which was about a problem in UAE; I discussed the problem of using the wrong work place and I provided some suggestions to solve this problem. In this second report I used some helpful websites and I did citation for them.

During the course itself, we had  vocabulary quizzes which helped me a lot in building up more knowledge. Mr.Hedley Butterfield was really helpful and gave us the chance to learn by ourselves so we can't forget the information we learned. Generally, the course was interesting and I was really happy during this course because I improved my English and learned how to use different sources to get the information and write a project.

Problem & Solution
Career Growth in UAE

In UAE we suffer from many problems that we don’t think of or we don't try to solve. We can divide the problems in UAE to economic, social or political type. In this essay, I'll talk about a social and political problem in UAE. Many of UAE nationals don't know how to choose their work place. In this essay I'll talk about this issue from different aspects like how to determine your work, results of choosing the wrong work place and suggestions to solve or reduce this problem.

Every one of us dreams of his future when he is at high school or university. The problems come with people who can't think of one dream or future job. This could be because of many things; one of them is the way the person is raised at home. For instance, some families don't insist in making sure that their son or daughter is able to be independent or able to make decisions. Some parents determine the study field and even the work place of their children. By this way, children don't know how to make any decision in their life and they always depend on their family member’s opinion; they work in places they are not interested in. Others are from rich families and they don’t think of working at all because they get what they want from their parents, so inability to be independent and make choices is a problem with our young nationals that needs to be discussed.

Being unable to cope with the job is one of the serious problems in UAE. Because some of the workers don't like to work at this field, they come to work late and they don’t work as required because they are not interested at this career. This could lead to a bigger problem which is the loss of commitment at work.  These types of workers only think of working to get salaries. Moreover, National workers that choose the wrong job field will not be able to think of developing UAE by working hard and bringing new ideas to improve the economical or social fields in UAE. Moreover, some nationals who hate their jobs, ask their managers immediately to change their career then comes the problem of finding another job. This also gives a big chance to hire non national employees who are ready to work at any time. Other young citizens also will lose their chance of working because they are substituted with other non national workers; some of them are graduated from universities and they wait for their jobs but some of work areas in UAE do not trust young nationals to work well, so they prefer to hire people they believe that they will not complain one day and work hard.

In UAE, we have many ambitious and talented people but they don’t have persons to guide them. Why don’t we make a system or courses at high schools and universities to help our students in knowing what they like and determine their future jobs.  Nowadays, there are places where you can apply for a job in UAE by using websites, but it is better if we use for example mass media to announce about them and encourage people to join these work areas. Jobs In Dubai is one of the websites that give you a chance to apply for a job. They choose the most suitable parameters of your targeted job and they select the work area according to your employment criteria (Jobs and Services, 1992).  UAE University provides the students with opportunities to find careers and this has many branches and options to suit the students like Ershaad - Jobs for UAE Nationals and Etisalat Careers (Jobs and Careers, 2011). We should not forget about the family role in this issue; parents can help their children to be independent when they reach the right age, they should let them choose what they like so they can be creative at their work and keep UAE work fields up to date.(666 words)

The Porsche 911 Turbo and the Bugatti Veyron

Today, car companies are competing to produce the fastest and best sport cars and trying to win the competition.
Most people like to have a fancy car for luxury, safety, being unique and special. The Porsche 911 Turbo and the Bugatti Veyron are two of the most popular super sport cars on the production market nowadays. In this essay I am going to compare the two cars and discuss the differences and similarities between them. In addition, I'll figure out the interesting features about both cars.

Companies which producing sport cars like the Bugatti and Porsche 911 prefer to be unique in the design of their cars.  As a result, it is difficult to recognize similarities between them. The major similarity between them is that both are made in Germany. Also, they have powerful engines. The Bugatti engine horse power is 1001 (Bovingdon 2010) and the Porsche 911 engine is 480- horse power (Renolds 2007). Besides, there are several similarities; both of them are developed and designed to be fast on the street and they are in some way similar in body size. Both of them have very good road holding and the engine is placed in the back in both cars. Moreover, both of them are coupe cars which only have two seats and two doors because they are supercars. Also, they have a nice and attractive shape.

There are several differences between the two cars. Firstly, the price between the Bugatti and the Porsche is slightly different; the Bugatti is selling for $1,980,000 (Bovingdon 2010). On the other hand the Porsche 911 price is $137,360-$140,780 (Renolds 2007). As the price shows the Bugatti is more expensive than the Porsche 911. Also, there are other differences between the two cars, like the maximum speed of the Bugatti Veyron is 253.2mph and it can get from 0 to 60/mph in 2.5 seconds while the maximum speed for the Porsche 911 Turbo is 192/mph and it takes 3.6 seconds to reach 60/mph. The weight of the Bugatti Veyron is 4,350 lbs. while the weight of the Porsche 911 Turbo is just 3,650-3,750 lbs. In addition, the Bugatti wheels are larger than the Porsche 911 wheels. The Bugatti is 106.7 inch (Bovingdon 2010) compared to the Porsche 911 whice is 92.5 inch (Renolds 2007).Moreover, The Porsche 911 Turbo engine has 500-hp which produces 516-pound feet torque but the Bugatti Veyron has 1001hp, and produces 922-pound feet torque (Adams, Brown, & Lienert, 2006).

There are some interesting details about the Bugatti and the Porsche 911. Most people prefer the Porsche 911 because the price is suitable. On the other hand, the Bugatti is more expensive and rare to see in the street. There is also another point that interests me in both of them is the speed; the Bugatti Veyron can do 253mph and it can get from the start to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds while the maximum speed for Porsche 911 Turbo is 192mph and it takes 3.6 seconds to reach to 60 mph. Also, I like the feature in Bugatti about “cooling off the engine which keeping the engine 10 radiators and a completely uncovered engine compartment” (Adams, Brown, & Lienert, 2006). On the other hand, the body of the Porsche 911 Turbo is one of the safest bodies in the world (Renolds 2007).

In short, I compared and contrasted the Bugatti and the Porsche 911 in terms of size, price, speed, wheels and engine power.  Both cars are fantastic and famous cars all over the world.  These two cars are the best and fastest super cars in the world and everyone wants to own one. Personally, I prefer the Porsche 911 Turbo because it is cheaper than the Bugatti and I do not need to use a very fast car like the Bugatti in my country (U.A.E) because the maximum speed is limited on the roads and monitored by radars.

     Reflection1

I learned from this course many things. The most important things I learned are on line citation and bibliography. At the beginning of the course, I didn’t know the difference between them, and then our doctor taught us how to differentiate between them by applying them in our projects. Citation is important to give credit to the work of others,
to be honest about the extent of your original contribution and to avoid plagiarism. I learned what the meaning of plagiarism is; it is when you use some one’s ideas, work, or words as if they were your own. It is illegal in law to do plagiarism because it is stealing other work and putting it under your name. Bibliography is a systematic list of books and other works such as journal articles. The second research task of this course was; the comparison between the Bugatti Veyron & the Porsche 911 Turbo, I learned how to do accurate citation and bibliography.

TV as a method of technology

Technology is defined as the application of information in the design and production of goods and services to help organizing human activities ( Businessdictionary.com. Web. 2011 ). Every one of us uses technology every day; simply when you take your mobile phone and call someone, you are using technology. The unique thing about this is not the technology itself but the updates in the technology field that keeps changing from time to time in order for us to keep up to date and enjoy an easier life. One of the most commonly used technologies nowadays is Television (TV). TV as a technology that has many advantages and disadvantages and going to discuss some of them in this project.

The discovery of television is a group of efforts; many scientists tried since 1922 to work in transmission of photographs by wire as well as fiber optics and radar as a starting point to build up TV technology. Then, in 1923, Zworykin and Farnsworth as scientists worked in this technology more. For instance, Zworykin invented the iconoscope which was an electronic image scanner as a primitive television camera. After that, Fransworth successfully demonstrated the transmission of television signals, which he did on September 7, 1927, using a scanning tube of his own design. (Portz, 2011).

Nowadays, almost every house has a television and families spend time in watching it daily ( SciaGa.pl. Wojtas, 9 Dec. 2003. Web ). This clever technology has many advantages; it can help a lot in building up information. There are many educational channels children and adults can watch like documentaries and science programs. TV also helps us to keep up to date by showing the world news daily so we can know what’s happening all over the world and have an idea about the modern technologies. TV as a source of media plays a vital role in spreading awareness; smoking cessation is a good simple example of ones awareness efforts. Any person tends to have a desire to enjoy and refresh himself so he can simply open the TV since there are many TV programs for entertainment, such as movies and serials. If we use this technology in the right way, we can even get experience in life; by watching the programs about people's stories and experience in life. People who want to find jobs can also see advertisements that are shown in some TV channels.

On the other hand, Television has many disadvantages. (SciaGa.pl. Wojtas, 9 Dec. 2003. Web).  A lot of people spend too much time in front of the TV screen. This separates them from contacting with others and having good social relationships. Family members for example are affected by this long time watching TV programs; they become like a community but with different towns; they become separated from each other in daily activities and thoughts also. Sedentary life style is a serious problem of this technology. Many persons sit for hours watching TV without moving and they tend to eat more junk food while watching which can be a big cause of being overweight. Nowadays there are many violence shows on TV. There are channels that show movies with violent scenes and the problem comes with children who tend to watch these  kind of movies. The child then has thoughts about crime. Children will consider violent a simple thing they can try in their life; simply they can fight with their friends at school. In recent years in the UAE, we suffereed and still suffer from violant behaviour of children and teenagers. They watch and learn killing others from TV and they tend to use knies to hurt each other in case of even misunderstanding. Television also has a strong effect on children who sit up late watching cartoons; they have sleeping disturbances , they get up late or may be absent to their classes. Furthermore, children could have signs of physical disturbance; they may experience being tired and drowsy during school time. ( PEDIATRICS. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Oct. 1998 ).

As I see, TV is a double edge weapon; it can be useful or harmful. Each one of us should learn the art of using TV programs or shows in the right way. We should choose what is suitable to watch according to our age, and environment. For instance, we have to think about watching programs that help us in building our personality especially when we are teenagers by watching social programs done by knowledge and experts in this field. Every one of us also has the right to build his own which differs from person to person according to their educational levels. For example, children are recommended to watch documentory and educational channels while adults in high school or first year of college are recommended to watch programs to increase their skills such as computer and language abilities. Television is an execellent example of technology; we should take this chance to be open minded and think out of the box. We have to watch the world news daily and learn about other cultures in order for us to learn how to deal with each other and help our country for example in the business field by dealing with people from different societies.

We can not deny that television is a major part in media. Awarness through TV should continue. This Awareness programs have to include the concept of using TV in the right way espescially for children. Parents are recommended to watch their children while they are infront of the TV screen to guide them. At the end of this talk, TV is a technology that changed the world so let’s think of changing ourselves by this technology.

Return to the SLK

After a rather long period of gestation, the original folding-roof convertible for the masses is back: Mercedes’s third generation SLK has made its re-appearance and very interesting new prices. The current R171 SLK car dates all the way back to 2004.

Inside the interior apse the SLS, with big cross-hair air vents, cascades aluminum fascia and a new aluminum controller for the Command multimedia system. For a car that was first with the once- gimmicky folding roof, the new talking point for this car is undoubtedly the ‘magic sky’ control.

The SLK clearly draws its butch front end from the angular faces of the new CLS four-door coupe and the brash SLS AMG V8 super car.
